On this page you will find a set of twelve video countdown timers for all ages. The videos are for 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 15, 20, 25 and 30-minutes respectively. Each video displays a flickering candle, the prayer-word ‘Maranatha’ and a silent countdown timer for the specified number of minutes.
These may be used by anyone at home, in schools or other group settings or as part of an online meditation session.
Further down this page you will find a range of video timers suitable for children in schools who are starting meditation. They contain a short introduction and a simple song for introducing children to the practice. Once children are comfortable with their practice, teachers may wish to change over to the simpler countdown timers directly below.
Timers for Schools Beginning Meditation with Children
We have developed a range of timers to cater for children beginning meditation both in faith schools and in multi-denominational or secular settings. We invite parents and teachers to explore the timers we have created and to find a set that suits their needs. There are two sets of audio timers below and a link to video timers for children – to access the video timers, click on the image to the right.
The first set of audio timers are designed for faith schools; they speak of meditation as sitting silently in God’s presence. These timers (for faith schools) include a verse from Fr Tom Lawton’s song ‘Into the Quiet’. The second set is designed for multi-denominational and secular schools where faith formation is not part of the school curriculum. That second set contains no reference to any faith.
The audio timers for beginners range from one to four minutes. They have a longer introduction designed to help settle children before meditation and to help them adopt an alert, yet relaxed, posture. The timers for those who have been meditating for some time have a very short introduction and no music.
