Children January 2022 Newsletter

No doubt you are apprehensive about being back in school while the Omicrom wave is still so strong. But I know you also appreciate how challenging this is for children and you know that the routine of school, having a clear focus to their day, being able to socialise and play are so very important to young children as they grow. They will never have an opportunity to relive these precious moments that contribute so much to their development; help them live life to the full.

Meditation is a wonderful resource for children – a gift for life; especially at times like these. They take so naturally to it. As adults we can be greatly surprised by how  well children take to meditation. But once we see them do it, we appreciate what a great asset it is for them. So, please, keep up the practice in your classroom and school.

Setting aside time in a busy day for meditation can seem counter-intuitive. But Archbishop Desmond Tutu who passed away very recently used to say that when he felt overwhelmed by the business of his day he knew he needed to increase the time he set aside to meditate. Because meditation changes how we see things and it helps us top put things in perspective. When we set aside time to simply be, we come away renewed in body, mind and spirit. When we stand back from the frantic nature of our daily doing we discover again who we are at the deepest level of our being.

Have you checked out the free short videos we created for teaching meditation to children.

They can be used so easily by parents and teachers to introduce children to the practice.

When I meditate, I see the goodness in others. [Shona, 10]

Meditation made me realise that when somebody behaves badly, that is not who they really are on the inside. [Conor, 11]

When I meditate I go into a room in my heart. [Adele, 8]

We wrote a special song for our meditation timers. Sung by Caroline Kay, it is named ‘Love is Calling’.

This short video, which is designed for young children, explores how meditation is our response to the call of Love.

We experience this call and response in the heart rather than the mind.
