In line with best practice, for administrative purposes, Christian Meditation Ireland is a company limited by guarantee. There is a board of directors whose central role is to animate the meditation community in Ireland and to promote the practice of meditation in society.
Our AGM this year will once again be held online because of Covid restrictions. It will take place on Saturday, 23 April 2022 at 11 a.m. via Zoom, conducted by Noel Keating from his home.
Formal notification has been sent out to the 22 named ‘members’ of the company (the nominal shareholders, as it were). The AGM is a legal requirement under the Companies Act 2014.
It had been our practice to run an in-person Forum on the same day, open to all in our meditation community, at which each Director gives an account of how they support the community. We will return to that format again as soon as Covid allows.

Christian Meditation Ireland is a community of people who share a common commitment to the practice of meditation and an appreciation for its rich spiritual fruits. All of our activities are voluntary and many people give freely of their time and energy to animate and support the community. The only charge we make is for attendance at our annual retreat and, because of Covid-19 we have not been able to arrange one for the past few years.
Yet, we have a series of ongoing, repeated costs. These include public liability insurance, accountancy fee, website hosting, and bank charges and these costs come to about €1,500 each year. In addition, our website has not been updated for a long time and we estimate we would face a minimum charge of €1,500 to modernise it and make it more accessible for all.
WCCM has arranged a series of four talks on the Future of Intelligence. The talks are scheduled for 21 April, 21 July, 08 September & 24 November 2022.
The series is based on the understanding that there an understanding in our time of the concept of intelligence that extends far beyond measurable IQ. While we think of intelligence as our capacity to analyse and understand the world in which we live, intelligence properly understood goes much deeper. This series of talks will explore how the two hemispheres of the brain attend to and interpret the world in different ways (21 April), the concept of spiritual intelligence (21 July), the rapid expansion of ‘artificial’ intelligence and machine ‘learning’ (08 September) and socio-political intelligence (24 November).
In April, Dr Iain McGilchrist, author of The Matter with Things, will elucidate how left-hemisphere perception, which now dominates Western culture, has created a serious imbalance in our view of reality. In July, Alan Wallace and Cynthia Bourgeault will join Fr Laurence to explore spiritual intelligence. Later on, in September, Dr Susan Schnaider, Prof Andrew Briggs and Alessandro Colarossi will tease out the implications of developments in artificial intelligence and finally, in November, our own Dr Mary McAleese will join Prof. Charles Taylor and Herman Van Rompuy to explore the art of socio-political intelligence.
A core aim of the series is to show that an integration of intelligences is needed to co-create a humane world for future generations.
