The school year is moving quickly onwards! By now all schools should have settled back into the rhythm of several weekly meditations across the whole school at the same time. These breaks in the day are so important for children and teachers alike! If you haven’t already renewed the practice, please do start now!
One school wrote to me recently to say they started and ended their whole-school assembly with the song (from our CD) ‘There is Goodness Inside‘ and began the assembly with a short meditation.
Does your school start school assemblies with a short period of meditation? I would love to hear from you – just a very brief word to say what works for you.

Meditation has some very practical benefits that the modern world recognises are important for our children’s mental and emotional wellbeing. But it also gives rise to deeper fruits – it promotes human flourishing for the meditator and for society as a whole.
The fact that a whole school community chooses to sit together in silence creates a communal mind-set which promotes a sense of stillness, as it were, in the body of the whole school community. Stillness and silence hold special significance as a group meditates. The more silent each person is, the more everyone is helped to maintain it so the silence becomes a communal silence. Communal silence contributes to a deeper sense of school community.
