Children May 2022 Newsletter

We are delighted to announce that we will be running a Summer Course for teachers this year called ‘Mindfulness and Meditation for the Well-being of Teachers and Children’. The course, which take place from Mon.15 – Fri. 19 August 2022 in Scoil Chóca Kilcock, Co. Kildare, will focus on a range of practical meditation and holistic well-being activities across a range of subjects in the primary curriculum. There will be a specific focus on music, the visual arts, physical education, and SPHE to support and enhance learning in the classroom.

Schools are required to promote the spirituality of children – as distinct from their religious formation – and our course will explore the links between meditation and the innate spirituality of children.

Dr Noel Keating (Meditation with Children Project), Bryan O’Reilly (former Primary Principal) and Noirin Kelly (former Primary Teacher) will facilitate the program. Application can be made through Kildare Education Support Centre by clicking the image above or by clicking here.

All participants will receive a free copy of the book ‘Meditation with Children’ and a copy of the accompanying CD of songs and reflections. In addition we will provide free access to a wide range of additional, practical classroom resources.

The World Community for Christian Meditation organises a seminar each year on aspects of meditation with children. This year the seminar examines how meditation can help children who are emerging from trauma.

That may be severe trauma as experienced by Ukranian children who have had to flee the brutal war in their country or it may be the challenges faced by young people throughout the last few years as our lifestyle was greatly transformed by the need to limit the spread of Covid.

I hope that you and the children in your class know from personal experience of whole-school meditation how meditation can reduce anxiety and help children to let go of the drama in their lives and simply be themselves.

This seminar, organised by Meditatio, an outreach of WCCM, will focus on the physical and emotional health needs of children and will explore how meditation, as a regular practice, contributes to the well-being of the person and to human flourishing at a very deep level.Click on the image to find out more or to register. The fee is £15 sterling per person.

The short video on the right, for young children, explores how meditation helps children to be true to themselves, to let go of all the drama and simply be.
